In this vast planet ,human beings are just a little part of it, but we, the mankind, mostly try to prove ourselves the ultimate life form. Driven by the obsession with power and urge to conquer everything we often tend to dominate or rather suppress the weaker, which makes us nothing but a control freak. But at the end of everything there is the almighty who watches us closely and silently laughs at us. While we are fighting with each other for small and negligible reasons the supreme might have some other plans for us. A plan to save us from the grip of sin, hatred, death and many more things which creates a dark space in ourselves. Here in Bruce S. Poteat’s book Evil Deception, we can get a closer glimpse of the biggest duel of this universe. A classic battle between good and evil, light and dark, positivity and negativity, life and death – and so on. After finishing the novel our goal towards becoming the most powerful might seem laughable to the readers and that is probably the greatest triumph of the author.

As per the plot is concerned, the storyline revolves around the eternal duel of God and Satan. The plotline covers a long timeline where Satan is always in the mood to defeat the almighty and rule over his creations. In every timeline Satan is trying to impose greed, lust, lies, deceit, doubt and many more things on human beings to make the world full of demons. On the other hand, God either being himself or with sending his holy child saving mankind in many ways. There are numerous stories like that since the initial days of creation which are very well illustrated in Poteat’s book. Stories like Cain – Abel, Abraham – Sarah, or Adam – Eve will make the readers feel like, after everything, God always has his own plan. There are some interesting subplots like the father son duo Simon and Alexander who tried to save even God’s own creation, giving us a message of selflessness. Along with that, readers can empathize with the affection between the duo which makes the narration more connecting to the readers. Characters like Debi, Dr. Spigelman, Gafen, Joseph make the storyline more intriguing.

In addition to some good camaraderie and in-depth character writing some of the scenes like Jesus getting brutally treated, slowly leaning to death, Alexander following Simon, or Joseph arguing with Governor Pilate make the backdrop engrossing. The emotions trigger well and reach the peak in some of those moments. The more the story goes forward the more it gives the vibe like if you have faith, you might see God himself or else there is nothing like that. If you are aware of the long-standing feud between Christianity and Jeus then it’ll help you more to get connected with the plotline, especially in the initial half of the book. Overall, it’s a plot driven novel set in the backdrop of the eternal belief of Good vs Evil or our inner goodwill vs every kind of satanic thoughts we can produce within our-self. It’s engaging, with plenty of events and leaves with a vibe where we as the readers have to question ourselves regarding the everlasting dark and light war.  Evil Deception would be ideal for book clubs, church groups, and anyone interested in stories that reflect the ongoing spiritual battle between the Kingdom of God and the dark forces that oppose it.
