Blind Vector is simultaneously a throwback to a simpler time in storytelling as well as a breath of fresh air. So many stories and storytellers today feel the need to set themselves apart from others so much that it ends up taking away from the main point of the novel. Blind Vector takes its time to unfold, but it has a significant payoff at the end, it is like watching a flower bloom. You won’t spend the entire story trying to figure out a mystery or bracing for a twist, which is one of the many features that make this book worth picking up.
In the beginning, this unassuming novel feels like another generic military story. The reader is lulled into a sense of complacency as you meet characters that seem unremarkable when compared to other literary figures in the same genre. However, as the story unfolds and a series of events take place, the pace and the genre of the book begin to change shape. What begins as a run-of-the-mill military drama turns into an exciting heist in the vein of Ocean’s Eleven with just a sprinkle of paranormal. The idea unfolds so organically the reader almost forgets that you’re not supposed to root for people who do bad things. These confusing feelings will continue until the satisfying conclusion.
Beale’s writing style is genuinely refreshing because it is laser-focused on the plot without having to pad the story for more pages or misdirection. Instead, we get just enough of every plot device to keep the story moving forward. For instance, there is just enough character development to have empathy for the characters when something bad happens to them, but you don’t walk away from the story feeling like you are leaving a friend behind. This relationship with the characters is almost scientific in its design as readers’ relationships with them change over the course of the book.
This novel has the momentum of a boulder rolling down a hill. With every new chapter, it picks up more speed and never slows down. Readers will remain engaged until the very last period. This story straddles the line between believable and unbelievable in such an interesting way that you will find yourself questioning whether this is a top-secret conspiracy that actually happened or just an entertaining idea from the incredible imagination of C. Robert Beale. Whatever the truth is behind Blind Vector, one thing that is certain is that this is a fun adventure book that leaves readers satisfied. Filled with gripping twists and expertly paced storytelling, this novel is sure to satisfy readers who crave intelligent, high-octane fiction.
