Maggie, I Love You is an engaging character-driven story and alluring expository mystery by Ronald Higgins. Readers are introduced to Brent Stewart, a former assistant Vice President at a big insurance company whose dream was to be a private detective. He, fortunately, won a multi-million-dollar lottery that enabled him to go back to school, get his P. I. license and open his firm.

One day, Alex Lomax, Brent’s co-policeman in Saigon, Vietnam calls him and seeks his help concerning the disappearance of his wife Maggie Chong. Brent takes up the case along with his team to help out his former compeer. Soon after, he is thrown into a murky road entangled with secrets and dangerous revelations with the Chinese Mafia at the epicenter of it. Brent’s astonishing discovery of the link between Maggie’s father and the gang is just the beginning of a labyrinthine of lies and deceit. He is determined to stop at nothing until the case is solved.

Maggie, I Love You is a tale which awakens the inner sleuth in you. Fast-paced and gripping, this tapestry provides a glimpse into the protagonist’s exceptional methods and showcases his ability to tackle a convoluted case with ease. Higgins manages to hold the reader’s attention by providing clues and red herrings along the way and even goes ahead to create various suspects across the pages as he masterfully leads us to a satisfying conclusion.

A true virtuoso in voice and storytelling, this text rings with both profound originality and apparent contemporary energy. Ronald Higgins has admittedly written a genre-refuting book. The two-hundred-plus pages had me hooked from the very first page. If you are new to Higgin’s triumphant works, then Maggie, I Love You would be a great place to start!
