It is often said the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. There are so many moments in a person’s life that force them to examine the choices they have made, and seek the answer to the question, what might have been? There have been numerous theories both scientific and supernatural to explore the concept of what might have been, but one of the greatest theories to date is of the multiverse, or parallel realities eerily similar to our own, with only slight changes to our own. Yet there are some who speculate even grander, far more elaborate choices could lead to more catastrophic realities, forcing us to appreciate the choices we do have in this life.

Author Abdul-Azeez Ayodele Azeez’s Outer Realm: Advent of Fire, the author explores this idea through the story of Lord Franklin. The leader and his men one day encounter a being known as Kraag. This being forewarns the leader he plans to eradicate all of humanity on this world. Believing this to be a trick from his hated foe Hector, the Lord returns to his kingdom, only to find it in upheaval. His archers inform him of strange incidents within his castle, and soon they are surrounded by lycanthropes, the leader of which is Fragaa, who wants nothing more than to prevent the impending doom that is looming over them all. In this, she shows the Lord an alternate reality, one where this disaster occurred.

The sheer volume of world-building and mythology that the author built from scratch in this book was spectacular. The book immediately jumps into the stark differences between our world and that of Mirthadine, in which the people there would have superhuman abilities on our world due to the difference in gravity, and their world is ruled by the laws of the supernatural and mythological. The rich character development and depth of detail the author puts into the setting of this story really were fantastic, stoking the fires of creativity and imagination in the reader’s minds.

This is the perfect read for those who enjoy fantasy novels, especially those fantasy novels which include a healthy amount of mythos, mystery, action and adventure. The tension that builds as Lord Franklin must navigate this alternate world and in essence see the consequences of his failure to act was thick and atmospheric in its delivery, allowing the reader to delve further and further into this fantastic blend of supernatural fantasy storytelling.

Memorable, entertaining, and richly developed, author Abdul-Azeez Ayodele Azeez’s Outer Realm: Advent of Fire is a must-read fantasy novel which will stay with the reader long after the book is finished. With twists and turns that keep the reader invested in Lord Franklin’s journey, and a shocking ending will keep readers hanging onto the author’s every word.  This is one fantasy novel you won’t want to miss.
