Who doesn’t like reading an extraordinary story based on an extraordinary character? Such books that take readers through mega experiences of a man through thick and thin often make their way to an avid reader’s desk. The book here does just that!
The Following Storm by author Peter A. Moscovita follows the life of Karl Vita, a navy officer, through tough war times. Karl Vita is in merchant service – a job that he enjoys more than anything. However, after an unexpected event, he is forced to run away from his work and eventually sets off to Vienna, Austria, where his mother, sister, and nephew live. Clouds of war grow darker, leaving Karl extremely worried about the safety of his family. He drives them across Europe – and finally manages to bring them to England. The family is now safe, but as it turns out, Karl’s life is bound to take an unexpected turn. Following some real turbulent times, he joins the war effort against Germany as an agent. His new job brings a massive change in his life, but what makes it all the more interesting is his newfound love.
The Following Storm is majorly fictional with some parts of it coming from real life. The backdrop is loosely based on real events leading up to World War II, and some of the tales have been taken from the life of the author’s father during his time in merchant service. Not just that, as per the author, the relationships and the ‘spice’ you find in the book have been inspired by his connection with his wife, Martine.
It’s a wonderfully written book that’s been paced very well. At no point do you feel exhausted or bored despite the fact that it’s a read of over 300 pages. The language is simple and easy to understand – and some parts of the book have the classic Hollywood vibe to them. The character development that you witness is convincing, and the stories and emotions involved seem quite relatable.
Everything put together, The Following Storm by Peter A. Moscovita is an entertaining read offering much more than just reading joy. Yes, life lessons. From resilience in the face of adversity to the need for calm in the moment of storm, all the events mentioned in the book offer some real value to the reader. If you haven’t decided on your next book yet, we’d highly recommend you make this one your next one.
