If there is one universal constant in the world, it is that the past never stays buried for long. No matter how much distance a person puts between themselves and their past, the world never forgets, and the past has an impact on the present and the future which can determine the path a person’s life takes, even if it isn’t the path they intended to live through.

Past and present collide like a hurricane untethered in author Brock Bodenschatz’s, The Time Has Come. The story follows a treasure hunter who has spent his entire life searching for a large find that ties into his past. Traveling with his wife, a voodoo priestess, the treasure hunter finds himself on a collision course with a band of grave robbers who not only want the same treasure, but who have come into conflict with the treasure hunter years earlier. Fate and the past collide into a shocking twist of events which will leave readers breathless as worlds collide.

The depth of character development and narrative intrigue are so powerful in this book. The shifting POVs in each chapter allowed readers to get a full sense of the scope which this plot has, and all the players who have the most impact on the scenes. The rich setting and travel aspect of the narrative added wild settings that felt adventurous, and the intrigue which comes from both the mystery of the treasure itself as well as the suspense of who will reach it first and what does the past have to do with these events as they occur build a great story. The relationship between Pete and Esmerelda especially was quite fascinating and their shared past kept me invested in this narrative.

Readers who enjoy fictional tales, especially those that include mystery, suspense, and thrillers, this is the narrative they will be enthralled with. The various cultures and the level of world-building the author poured into these characters’ backstories and the dynamics between these characters make the story feel accessible and relatable, while the action and the meat of the narrative feel cinematic and will keep the readers on the edge of their seat as the climax of the story reaches its shocking conclusion. This has all of the elements readers hope to find in a book of this genre.
