When diving into an epic fantasy novel, there’s a lot to be expected – such as a fantastical alternative world full of characters and themes that fit the quintessential definition of “epic.” The biggest thing to expect, though, is the unexpected. To be taken on a journey different from all the rest before and to immerse yourself in this incredible new world is an experience unlike any other, and is precisely where you will find yourself when reading Blood of Deception: Plots Arising Book 1 by Vincent G. Bivona.
While you may begin this novel with the expectation of sorcery, monsters, and dragons, the reality is much more detailed in its violence and devastation than your “typical” fantasy novel. Bivona creates a wonderful anti-heroine of sorts in his main protagonist, Dak’tari who is on a quest – which is needed in any great epic fantasy – that will leave her uncovering interesting and unique connections to new characters as she continues on her journey. Her magical powers play a pivotal role in the book’s direction and ultimately leads to an incredible climax.
The origin story of Dak’tari is captivating as she was a child born and raised in a citadel where darkness prevailed, and murder and death were the only things she had ever known. She is surrounded by this mayhem and evil until ultimately she is accepted by her heritage. She is then used by the dark lord to wreak havoc and destruction against the gods of Tamora. Because a time before Dak’tari, the gods cast down the forgotten god, it is now her power that he wants to use as his ultimate weapon to achieve the vengeance he so longs for.
This fantasy tale will enthrall, frighten, and devastate you while leaving you utterly captivated by the plot unfolding before you. What makes this story even more exciting is the lively cast of characters which consist of elves, dwarves, and humans alike. The real question is, though, will Dak’tari avenge her beloved by destroying those who betrayed them? One thing is for certain – any fantasy fiction fans out there will be delighted they decided to come along for the ride for this intense epic story full of incredible imagery that will stick with you for ages.
